Xiaomi Mi AirDots 2 SE launched as cheaper wireless earbuds, promises five hours of battery

The Mi AirDots 2 SE comes as a cheaper version of Mi AirDots 2 in China. It features noise cancellation, touch controls and more.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • The Mi AirDots 2 SE has been announced in China at a price of approx Rs 1,800.

  • Xiaomi offers up to 20 hours of battery life with the cheaper model too.

  • Xiaomi launched the Mi True Wireless Earphones 2 in India last week.

It took OEMs four years to replicate what Apple managed to do for earphones in 2016 with its AirPods. Realme managed to sell a clone at a much cheaper price of Rs 3,999 and soon, others followed. Xiaomi announced its true wireless earbuds last week starting at a price of Rs 4,500 while Oppo announced its Enco W31 at Rs 3,999. And that’s not all as more of them are heading our way. The recent one in the group is the Mi AirDots 2 SE, which has just been announced in China.

As the name suggests, the Mi AirDots 2 SE is a more affordable version of the Mi AirDots 2. You can get it at a price of Yuan 169 (approximately Rs 1,800) and currently come only in a White colour variant. While the earbuds are much cheaper than the recently announced Mi True Wireless Earphones 2, the specifications sheet suggests it is almost on par when it comes to features.

Similar to the ones launched in India, the SE features 14.2mm drivers and accompanies a dual-microphone system for noise cancellation. The earbuds rely on Bluetooth 5.0 for connection. Similar to most earbuds these days, it has infrared sensors for wear detection. If you were wondering, the AirDots 2 SE also features touch-based controls wherein users can control both music playback and volume levels using touch gestures.

Battery life is limited to five hours for the earbuds and if you factor in the backup from the case, it goes up to 20 hours on a single top-up. One can charge the case via a USB-C port and Xiaomi says it takes 1.5 hours to charge.

  • Earlier this month, Xiaomi launched the new Mi True Wireless Earphones 2 in India

Apple ignited a rage for true wireless earbuds (TWS) with the original AirPods and now Chinese brands are going after this new segment by launching cheaper versions but with much better value propositions. Xiaomi, which initially became popular for smartphone design language that was eerily similar to Apple, has launched a new TWS.

The Chinese brand has launched an Apple AirPod-like AirDots 2 SE. This is a cheaper version of the AirDots 2s which was launched earlier. The earbuds have been launched in China and the company has already begun taking pre-orders. The item will start shipping as early as 19 May. The new TWS earbuds have been launched at a price CNY 170 (roughly ₹1,800). In comparison to the more expensive AirDots 2s, the SE version does not get support for high definition codec LHDC, but they do offer AAC. For connectivity the earbuds use Bluetooth 5.0.
